Shockwave Therapy In London

Shockwave Therapy in London

treatment for Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

Shockwave therapy, or its longer name of low intensity extracorporeal  shockwave therapy (LI-ESWT), is an innovative, non-invasive, hands-free technology that treats the ‘source’ of erectile dysfunction with no known side-effects. Li-ESWT encourages the male organ to rejuvenate & build new blood vessels (The process is called angiogenesis) with reparative changes to the penile area.

effective in treating up to 84% of men

Shockwave therapy uses quick, low density shockwaves, known as linear shockwave therapy (LSWT), in four different areas of the groin and penis. The purpose is to increase the blood supply that generates an erection, therefore reversing the effects of ageing and vascular deterioration. The treatment is non- invasive, pain-free, requires no analgesia and comes with no downtime.

Li-ESWT is unique in that it targets the underlying causes of erectile dysfunction (ED), especially of the vasculogenic type. Men whose ED is induced by diabetes or cardiovascular problems do respond well to the Shockwave treatment.

Studies have shown that Li-ESWT is an effective and successful procedure in treating up to 84% of men . One particular study showed that almost 50 percent of men being treated were able to perform sexually without any medications in the first 2 months following completion of shockwave treatment.

What is Shockwave therapy?

Low Intensity Shockwave Therapy (LISWT) is a proven soundwave technology that focuses sound waves onto a linear segment on the target area, called vigore. Other shockwave devices apply low-density sound waves in a focal rather than a linear way. Both devices are non-invasive and have the same kind of effect and success rate. The purpose is to cause controlled micro- injury at the cellular level that stimulates the body to regenerate new blood vessels.

LI-ESWT has angiogenetic properties and is therefore used in the management of Erectile Dysfunction, intractable wound healing, peripheral neuropathy, and in cardiac neovascularization. ESWT using powerful acoustic pulses has been mostly used circa 1970 to treat kidney/biliary stones and in physiotherapy for sportive injuries. It promotes bone and ligaments healing and wound healing It is also used to treat diabetic patients with foot ulcers.

What conditions does shockwave therapy help with?

LiSWT is a ground-breaking technology that has been used for decades to help with wound healing, especially the healing of bone fractures & damaged joints. Since 1986, further innovations have been introduced including its use in treatment of ED, diabetic foot ulcers and to break down stones in the kidney, gallbladder, or ureters.

The treatment is simple, non-invasive and pain-free. To date, no negative side effects related to the Renova shockwave treatment have been reported.

The treatment works by encouraging the penis to rejuvenate and re-build new blood vessels. This is called angiogenesis. Reparative changes lead to new tissue formation and improvement of blood flow to the area. The newly regenerated tissues strengthen the erectile tissues and restores a more confident performance.

The body responds by increasing the blood circulation and metabolism in male organ which in turn accelerates the body’s own healing processes via three mechanisms:
1. Promotes angio-genesis (development of new blood vessels) in the penis. This means that the blood flow to the penis increases, and hence stronger erections are achieved.
2. Rejuvenates the endothelium and penis smooth muscle and thus improves the function of the veno-occlusive mechanism.
3. It was reported in some studies, that shockwave therapy had improved the functionality of the penile nerves that were damaged by diabetes illness or following a radical prostatectomy.

We recommend a minimum of 6 sessions, but the protocol of sessions is customised based on the degree of erectile dysfunction. This also depends on any other factors that may be revealed by clinical assessment. Each session takes 15-20 minutes.

A real physiological change should be noticed between 4-6 weeks and up to 6 months after completing the treatment course.

The reported duration is variable among men treated but the benefit of the treatment tends to last for 12 months.
