Pain Control & Comfort Expectations During Injectable Procedures
At Dr NY Clinic, your comfort and dignity are central to every procedure we perform.
We understand that some patients may feel anxious about injectable treatments, particularly when procedures involve intimate or sensitive areas. While many patients find these procedures comfortable and well tolerated, every individual’s response is unique.
What we do to minimise discomfort
We use a range of accepted clinical measures to reduce pain and maximise comfort during procedures, including:
- Topical anaesthetic cream applied within safe and recommended limits
- Allowing appropriate time for the anaesthetic to take effect
- Use of very fine, thin needles where injections are required
- Careful assessment of numbness before proceeding
Despite these measures, it is important to understand that:
- Individual pain sensitivity varies widely, and there is no reliable way to predict pain thresholds before a procedure
- Some areas of the body may be more sensitive than others, even with anaesthesia
- Topical analgesics have necessary dosing limits for safety, so some sensation may remain
- The sensation of touch or pressure may still be felt, even when pain is reduced
- Occasionally, patients may experience unexpected or brief discomfort during an injection. This may occur even after anaesthesia and is not intentional. It does not indicate that anything has gone wrong.
Emotional responses are normal
We also recognise that anxiety, past experiences, or concern about needles or intimate procedures can intensify physical sensations and emotional reactions. Tearfulness, nervousness, or discomfort with anticipation are human and understandable and do not reflect weakness.
Your comfort is paramount during any procedure
- Your comfort is continuously monitored
- You are encouraged to communicate at any time
- Most people are comfortable, but occasionally there can be a brief unexpected sensation despite anaesthetic — if that happens, please tell me immediately and we’ll pause.
- The procedure can be paused or stopped at your request
- Additional anaesthetic may be offered if appropriate
You acknowledge that the administration of Local Anaesthesia as may be considered necessary within the safety boundary of allowed amount. You understand that the risks of Local Anaesthesia include allergic reaction, local discomfort, swelling, bruising, and very rarely seizures from lidocaine & its derivatives. You should confirm that you have Nil Known Drug Allergy (and have announced any possible allergies to Dr NY).
By proceeding with treatment, you acknowledge that while all reasonable measures are taken to control pain and maximise comfort, a small risk of transient discomfort or emotional response remains, and the anticipated benefits of your treatment plan may outweigh this temporary experience.
